Is America suffering from a lack of work ethic and professionalism? How do we address this?

Myrtle Beach, SC, Orlando, FL March 24, 2016

Prescott Valley, AZ Correspondent-America is suffering from a lack of worth ethic and professionalism.  A number of factors have caused the erosion and loss of both of these virtues and standards of American exceptionalism, and the country is paying both a societal and cultural price for these losses. With state legislatures and the federal government passing new laws almost every day, are we starting to over-criminalize America?

Correspondents were given the following link for this opinion article: Manhattan Institute: Overcriminalization

Owatonna, MN Correspondent-I have long believed American society has become far too burdened with laws. If one operates on the premise that for every law there is at least one corresponding lawbreaker, then each law passed gives us at least one if not hundreds or thousands of potential criminals. The vast majority of citizens become, unwittingly and/or inadvertently, guilty of committing a crime. At that point, we can fairly be described as a society of criminals. Continue reading

Should transgender individuals be allowed to use the restrooms of their choice/gender identity, be required to use to bathrooms that correspond to their sex at birth, or should schools and businesses be forced to provide “family restrooms” to accommodate transgenders?

Owatonna, MN Correspondent-The libertarian in me always winces whenever anyone suggests that one group of individuals should be forced to do something in order to accommodate another group of individuals. The progressive in me thinks installing family restrooms to accommodate transgenders makes sense. The conservative in me thinks enough is enough with society bending over backwards to accommodate any minority whatsoever who complains loudly enough about some sort of discrimination. Should Apple help the FBI unlock iPhones that may have information relating to terrorist activities or other criminal activities?

Myrtle Beach, SC Correspondent-Absolutely they should! For several reasons they should.

Let’s look at this from a legal standpoint. Your phone, text messages, emails, everything is discoverable evidence in a criminal case. So, let’s play this out. Apple decides NOT to unlock this phone. They basically are opening the flood gates to criminals, terrorists, etc. and saying your phone can’t be used against you as evidence. This is VERY detrimental to the criminal justice system. If it was my family involved in these attacks I’d want to know what was on that phone, who they were talking to, what they were talking about. I think the FBI has every right to the information on that phone. Continue reading

Is the Americans with Disabilities Act being abused by some pet owners and “lovers”? Should businesses have more pet-friendly policies to avoid potential discrimination claims, or should the ADA laws require licensure of service animals?

Myrtle Beach, SC, Orlando, FL February 23, 2016

Prescott Valley, AZ Correspondent-The Americans with Disabilities Act appears to have been abused by those pretending to require a service dog just so they can have their beloved pet by their side whether in a store, restaurant, or somewhere else where dogs are not allowed. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, it is a federal crime to use a dog under false pretenses and many states have laws against pet owners who would misrepresent their pet as a service dog. When more kids can list the cast of Jersey Shore than name the Vice President, is it time to institute exit exams from high school and stringent entrance exams for college so that we ensure American youth are versed in basic American history and civics?

Myrtle Beach, SC, Orlando, FL February 11, 2016

Sheffield, Jamaica Correspondent-History is important to the American society. Too often kids are able to list TV show casts such as Jersey Shore, but aren’t able to name the Vice President. That is quite sad. However, this problem can be tackled if educational facilities were to institute stringent examinations. These exams should be set and taken by students who are leaving high schools and those to be admitted in colleges. Continue reading

Symposium 2015: Should open carry with appropriate background checks and licensing be permitted in all 50 states as a federal regulation?

Prescott Valley, AZ Correspondent-Open carry should be permitted in all 50 states,  not as a federal regulation,  but as a state-by-state regulation as a number of states already have open carry  with background checks and appropriate license and permit procedures in place.

Symposium 2015: Now that same sex marriage has been legalized, is it time to legalize polygamy?

Sheffield, Jamaica Correspondent-Whether you’d like it or not, let me first add that our country, the world on a whole, is suffering from moral laxity. What was seen as abnormal by societal and Biblical standards years ago, are now frowned upon. Then, it’s no surprise same sex marriage has been legalized. Could it be that we’re running in the lowest sink of debauchery? ABSOLUTELY! As if legalizing same sex marriage was not abhorrent enough, there’s talk to legalize polygamy. Continue reading

Symposium 2015: Should unemployment and welfare benefits be tied to community service?

Prescott Valley, AZ Correspondent-More and more Americans unable to find work are drawing unemployment and welfare. The negative side of this pervasive problem is that getting paid for too much free time becomes an open invitation to an irresistible lifestyle for some. Who wouldn’t like to get paid for doing nothing?  This way of life has developed a group of complacent individuals otherwise known as freeloaders or leeches. Though some are genuinely concerned about finding work and the satisfaction of providing for themselves and their families, the lackadaisical types are more comfortable maintaining a moocher lifestyle. Symposium 2015: Is year round education good for student learning?

Gastonia, NC Correspondent-As the brother of a career middle school teacher and the son of a college professor, I am deeply suspicious of “fads” in education.  From New Math to Common Core, periodically some well-meaning idiot comes up with a fantastic new idea that’s going to make our kids smarter, our country stronger, our whites whiter and our colors brighter…or something like that.
