Digger Cartwright Statement on the Assumption of Stewardship Thinking Outside the Boxe

For over a decade Thinking Outside the Boxe existed to do one thing well: ask the questions that conventional institutions prefer to leave unexamined. It was never designed to influence policy, cultivate donors, or flatter the moment. It was built to look at incentives, power, and the gap between official narrative and observable fact without the usual institutional filters.

That work grew quiet. The original founder—Robert M. Clinger III—created something deliberately independent. and the late Sebastian G. Peréy’s influence, in particular, shaped its early character: clear-eyed, unsentimental, and allergic to fashionable consensus. After Sebastian’s death Thinking Outside the Boxe continued for a time, then gradually went dormant. The domain remained. The mission did not.

I have known this organization since 2007. I contributed to its symposiums, watched its early work, and later wrote Conversations on the Bench as a direct tribute to Sebastian’s influence on the man who built it. The decision to assume stewardship is not a sudden acquisition of a brand. It is the continuation of a conversation that began years ago and was left unfinished.

Under my direction Thinking Outside the Boxe will remain independent. It will not become a vehicle for any political faction, commercial interest, or personal crusade. It will publish analysis, recovered perspective, and the occasional document that does not fit comfortably elsewhere. The standard remains the same: clarity over consensus, evidence over fashion, and the willingness to examine what others prefer to leave untouched.

The original mission is intact. The instrument is simply being picked up again.
