Thinking Outside the Boxe began as a private effort between Sebastian G. Peréy and me to create space for independent examination of issues that mainstream outlets either ignored or handled with predetermined conclusions. Sebastian’s clarity of mind and refusal to soften difficult questions shaped the organization from its earliest days. After his death in 2011, the work continued for a time and then gradually fell silent.
I have known Digger Cartwright since he first attended our symposiums. He understood the purpose of Thinking Outside the Boxe better than most who passed through it. The decision to place the organization under his stewardship is deliberate. The original mission—independent, non-partisan, and unwilling to trade clarity for comfort—requires continuity rather than reinvention. Cartwright is positioned to provide that continuity.
I step back with confidence that the instrument we built will continue to be used for its intended purpose.
